Educational thoughts

I really wish so much emphasis wasn’t put on school/college/uni exams. Teachers try and make them seem like THE most important things in the world, and the sad thing is you believe them. You think that if you don’t pass this or you don’t get at LEAST a 2.1 in that, you’re a failure. It’s official, you’ve lost it, the world’s intellectuals no longer want to know you and you should just go hide in a hole, passing a McDonalds on the way for a job application. It really aggravates me, and it saddens me that most people in my position - including myself - believe it. Life is not all about exams, and to fail at something may just be a precursor to your success at something else. The stress put on students is incredible, but perhaps the most incredible thing is that most of them -again, me included - put it on themselves. Instead of living in pursuit of their dreams, they feel that they are useless and incapable of achieving anything without qualifications or a degree. Some of the most successful and happy people don’t have degrees, they just have balls. Balls to go after what they want, balls to embrace their true passions, rather than to suppress them as they choose the ‘sensible’ life path. All kids should be told this when they’re little.

Okay so, for those who are interested, I took this photograph of my brother a while ago (he was about 16 at the time but even so I thought it was pretty cool) and it is an imitation of the amazing American photographer Garry Winogrand. He took photos of American life and society in the 20th century. This is a link to the original image

Winogrand is the subject of this photograph, and I basically tried to copy the original photograph as accurately as possible. Granted, the quality isn’t good, but it’s still quite similar. Plus, my 16 year old brother with a cigarette in his mouth makes me laugh a bit (don’t do this at home, kids).
